My name is Lucinda Snyder and I am the creative force behind lucends.
I grew up in Texas. I do not have a Texas accent, but Texas is in my soul. I have lived in New York state for 14 years. I went to school for political science. If I knew then what I know now, I would have gone to fashion design school.
I love color. It is what moves me to create. It gently calls my name, ok sometimes it screams my name. I guess you could say it is my muse. It fuels my creative soul. I also love cowboy boots, and a comfortable pair of jeans on a crisp fall day.
I like to take simple shapes and give them a modern feel. There is beauty and freedom in simplicity. In our technology driven world, this is easily forgotten. I want to honor what is simple and pure and good.
I taught myself how to sew. My son Cooper died when he was 3 weeks old, after open heart surgery, and I needed something to calm the storm raging inside my soul, so I borrowed a sewing machine from a friend. Sewing saved me. It became a way to honor Cooper, keep living and slowly stitch my heart back together.
My son Chace was born on Valentine’s day 2010. He likes to help me sew. He also likes to rearrange my fabric. Now that he is given up his naps, I am learning how to stay up late to work. I live on many cups of coffee.
I believe wholeheartedly in the handmade process, ensuring that my hands and only my hands work on each lucends product. Each piece of work is made with a great deal of love, time and care. I want my work to help my customers feel an often times intangible emotion, love.
Along with my passion to be unique and creative, it has always been a dream of mine to have my own fabric line. That dream is now a reality as I am thrilled to announce that the fabric for fall 2013 and spring 2014 are Lucends exclusives. These one- of- a-kind designs were created in collaboration alongside Heather Dutton of Hangtight Studios with plans to continue a new collection every season.
Creating makes me happy. It makes my soul sing. I want my creations to make you smile, to brighten your day, to make you giggle, but most importantly I want you to feel a tremendous amount of love when see them and hold them in your hands.
